Soil Remediation Using Zero-Valent Iron Nano-Particle Modified with Spondias Mombin Leaves Extract

Zero-valent iron nano-particle (nZVI) was modified with Spondias mombin (Sm) leaves extract (Sm-nZVI) for the removal of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), hydrocarbon content (THC), and polycyclic aromatic (PAHs) from contaminated soil. Advanced analytical tools such as Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FT-IR) Spectrophotometer, Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) X-ray diffractometer (XRD) were used to characterize biosynthesized zero-valent nano-sorbent. The analysis confirmed that bioactive molecules alkaloids, polyphenols, flavonoids, etc. in responsible nanoparticle synthesis stabilization. peaks at 2 equal 44.9o (Fe0) Sm-nZVI. micrograph showed an average particle size ranging 13 nm 158 Sm-nZVI revealing micro-porosity sorbent. application organic pollutants varied effects experimental parameters dosage, contact time pH successful. result value optimum efficiency (%) THC (77.99%), TPH (75.61%) PAHs (96.98) 3.0. adsorbent dosage 0.8 g (79.15%), (80.36%) (97.31%) 45 min (97.86%) 120 (83.98%) (85.54%). higher (97.29%).
